It has been announced today that the West End and Broadway musical phenomenon Wicked The Musical, which tells the untold story of the Witches of Oz, is to return to London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre with performances resuming on 15th September 2021, and tickets on sale for the new booking period from 17th May
The hugely popular musical will mark its 15th anniversary in the West End later in the year and is to host a celebratory performance to mark the occasion on 28th September 2021.
Both the music and lyrics to Wicked The Musical are by Stephen Schwartz, the legendary composer Stephen Schwartz with a book by Winnie Holzman creating a story that is based on Gregory Maguire’s bestselling novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.
Wicked delves into, and imagines the beguiling backstory exploring the future possibilities to the lives of L. Frank Baum’s much-loved characters from 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' revealing both the decisions and events shaping their destinies as two unlikely university friends embark on a journey that will eventually lead to one becoming 'Glinda The Good', and the other the 'Wicked Witch of the West'.
This iconic musical has been enjoyed by over 10 million people in London alone and has played almost 6000 performances at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, winning of over 100 major international awards along the way, including two Olivier Awards, three Tony Awards, a Grammy Award.
Wicked The Musical is now the 9th longest-running musical of all time in the West End, and the enduring success of the show is directly linked to the cultural ecology of Victoria and the surrounding area, playing a pivotal role in securing the health of the leisure and hospitality landscape by attracting audiences from all over the UK and beyond.
