Gabriel Byrne is set to make his debut in the West End with his new one man play Walking with Ghosts which will run for a limited season of 14 performances at the Apollo Theatre from September 6th - 17th 2022.
Walking with Ghosts is a play that takes its inspiration from Byrne’s own Dublin upbringing and sees him reflect on a childhood growing up in and around the city, and the events that eventually sparked his imagination and gave him the inspiration to begin his career in acting.
Walking with Ghosts first premiered in February in Dublin at the Gaiety Theatre. Speaking about the play, Byrne commented “It was a real joy to hear laughter in a theatre during the premiere run of Walking with Ghosts in Dublin.”
“I've chosen to be honest and unflinching in the recounting of a life from working class Dublin to Hollywood. Although rooted in the local, I hope the play has a universal resonance. What I want in the theatre is to be moved to laugh ... to be provoked ... to be changed.”
Along with his glittering and long standing movie career, Byrne also has previous stage credits including the Broadway productions of 'Long Day’s Journey into Night' and 'A Moon for the Misbegotten'.
Walking With Ghosts will be directed by Lonny Price and has a creative team that features sound design by Sinéad Diskin, lighting design is by Sinéad McKenna, and costume design by Joan O’Clery.
Walking with Ghosts will open at the Apollo Theatre on September 6th.
