For a strictly limited season from January 24, 2023 The National Theatre and Neal Street Productions’ The Lehman Trilogy will make a triumphant return to the West End at the Gillian Lynne Theatre following its much-acclaimed runs in both Los Angeles and on Broadway, where it won 5 Tony Awards® including 'Best Play'. Sam Mendes, directs this incredible production which features three actors playing the roles of the Lehman brothers, their sons, and grandsons, in an extraordinary feat of story-telling that is told in three parts. The Lehman Trilogy was described by The New York Times as 'a genuinely epic production', and is the true story of a family and a company that changed the whole world.
On a chilly September morning in 1844, a young Bavarian man arrives on the New York dockside with big dreams of an exciting new life in the new world. Shortly after, he is joined by his two brothers, and the foundations of a true American epic begin. After a truly meteoric rise, 163 years later, the company they create – Lehman Brothers – collapses spectacularly into bankruptcy and triggers the start of what became the largest financial crisis in history.
