Producers have announced that South Pacific is to play a limited season at Sadlers Wells in the summer of 2022 before embarking on a nationwide tour. South Pacific will showcase at Sadler’s Wells from July 27th to August 28th.
This latest production of the classic musical South Pacific first ran earlier this year at the Chichester Festival Theatre. Commenting on the London transfer next summer, producers Jonathan Church and Jamie Wilson said: “After experiencing the buzz of the auditorium in Chichester, along with the rapturous applause and standing ovations, we knew that this production... just had to have a further life so that the magic of it could be enjoyed by everyone.”
The plot of the show is set during World War II on a South Pacific island, where an American nurse and a French plantation owner fall in love and features a collection of classic songs by Rodgers and Hammerstein, including “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair” and “Some Enchanted Evening”.
Reprising the role of Emile de Becque is Julian Ovenden who will be joined by Gina Beck as Nellie Forbush. Full casting for South Pacific for the season at Sadler’s Wells will be announced in due course.
South Pacific will be directed by Daniel Evans, with scenic and costume design by Peter McKintosh, lighting design by Howard Harrison, sound design by Paul Groothuis, and choreography and movement direction by Ann Yee.
Performances of South Pacific will play at Sadler’s Wells from July 27th- August 28th, 2022.
