Simon Russell Beale is to lead the cast in Lucinda Coxon’s adaptation of Ipsen's play, John Gabriel Borkman which will open later this year at the Bridge Theatre with previews beginning on September 24th ahead of an opening night scheduled for September 29th and performances due to run until November 26th.
The play by Henrik Ibsen follows the title character as he is sent to prison for fraud. While reflecting on his days as an entrepreneur, Borkman plots a miraculous comeback, while at the same time, his wife attempts to re-establish the ‘Borkman’ name.
Simon Russell Beale will take the title role in John Gabriel Borkman, having previously appeared at the Bridge Theatre in both ' Bach & Sons' and 'A Christmas Carol'. He has also recently starred both in the West End and on Broadway in 'The Lehman Trilogy'. Further casting for John Gabriel Borkman is set to be revealed in due course.
John Gabriel Borkman has been adapted by Lucinda Coxon who has previously collaborated with Bridge Theatre artistic director Nicholas Hytner and will direct John Gabriel Borkman, with further information on the creative team due to be announced at a later date.
Performances of John Gabriel Borkman will be at the Bridge Theatre from September 24th 2002.
