Following the announcement that the classic musical 'Cabaret' is to return to the West End starring Jessie Buckley and Eddie Redmayne, further details on the venue for the show have now been confirmed. Renovation is to take place at the Playhouse Theatre which will feature an in-the-round space to stage the show, which is due to begin performances beginning from November 2021. Full details on when tickets to the new and exciting production of Cabaret will go on sale are due to be announced shortly.
It is understood that a planning application has already been submitted to Westminster City Council detailing the proposed refurbishment work to the Playhouse Theatre ahead of the opening of Cabaret.
The proposed works that will take place will include:
Converting the current auditorium to a stage in the round layout
Some minor alterations to the basement level and to the dress circle and upper circle bar areas
The introduction of new level access in the location of the former opening
Some internal redecoration, replacement plant, an external new flue, and some associated works
A spokesperson from Ambassador Theatre Group said of the renovation in a statement: “Alongside the proposed entirely reversible transformation of the auditorium into the round we are seeking to make some minor, more permanent physical changes to the building… This will enable us to better provide for the new audiences, both for this unique production and for the longer-term future.”
The London revival of Cabaret will see the new seating capacity of the venue allow for a maximum of 550 patrons attend per performance.
The latest production of Cabaret is to be directed by Rebecca Frecknall, and will star Jessie Buckley as Sally Bowles. and Eddie Redmayne as the Emcee.
