Ahead of its much anticipated West End premiere on November 4th, further casting for The Drifters Girl has been announced with Matt Henry named to star alongside Beverley Knight in the show at the Garrick Theatre.
Along with Beverley Knight, Matt Henry, who is best known for his role as 'Lola' in Kinky Boots will be joined by Adam Bernard whose credits notably include winning an Olivier Award for the role of 'Jimmy Early' in Dreamgirls.
The Drifters will be completed by Come From Away's Tarinn Callender, and Dreamgirls' Tosh Wanogho-Maud. Beverley Knight will play the role of Faye Treadwell. The remainder of the casting will be announced in due course.
First formed back in the 1950's as a vocal backing group, The Drifters found worldwide fame and success thanks to the tenacity and efforts of their manager, Faye Treadwell. The group enjoyed a stream of hits that include “Save The Last Dance For Me.” and “There Goes My Baby”. The Drifters Girl will dramatise and highlight the group's meteoric rise to superstardom, as well as their ever-changing lineup and many legal battles.
The show will feature an original book by Ed Curtis, and direction from Jonathan Church. Other notable roles in the production will come with the associate direction from Tyrone Huntley, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, sound design by Tom Marshall, scenic design by Anthony Ward, costume design by Fay Fullerton, and choreography by Karen Bruce. The world premiere of the musical will take place in Newcastle, ahead of its eventual transfer to the West End at the Garrick Theatre.
