Family favourite, Matilda the Musical has become the latest musical to confirm its West End reopening dates after producers announced that performances will resume at the Cambridge Theatre from 16th September.
The new booking period for the show will see Matilda celebrate its landmark 10th anniversary in the West End following its transfer from the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon where it first opened in 2010, and moving into to London’s Cambridge Theatre in 2011.
Based on the much loved novel by Roald Dahl of the same name, Matilda tells the story of a titular child, blessed with an extraordinary intellect – in fact, so much so that she is able to pinpoint wrongdoings in the grownups around her. Whilst at school her powers grow into something way beyond mere intellect, and together with her favourite teacher, Miss Honey, she uses her psychokinetic powers to teach those around her a lesson after they decide that enough is enough and make a stand, to save the day with the help of Matilda’s classmates.
The stage version of Matilda was written by Dennis Kelly, with lyrics and music by Tim Minchin. The seven-time Olivier Award-winning musical won categories including best new musical, best director and best choreographer.
Casting for Matilda is yet to be announced.
