It seems that the revolting children in Matilda the Musical are determined to stay around for a little bit longer as it has now been announced that the smash hit show will carry on playing at the Cambridge Theatre, with performances now scheduled all the way through until December 18th, 2022.
The hit show also celebrates its 10th anniversary at the Cambridge Theatre after first opening at the venue back in November 2011. Matilda The Musical has so far been seen by over 4 million people, and has won 7 Olivier Awards including 'Best Musical'.
The plot of the show is based on the much loved Roald Dahl story of the same name and follows Matilda Wormwood, a supremely gifted child who attempts to use her powers for good as she attempts to defeat Miss Trunchbull, her evil headmistress. The stage version of Matilda was written by Dennis Kelly, with both lyrics and music by Tim Minchin.
The role of Matilda in the show is shared by Zoe Simon, Alyssa D'Souza, Imogen Cole, and Alex Munden. Elliot Harper plays the part of Miss Trunchbull, with Carly Thoms taking the role of Miss Honey, Annette McLaughlin as Mrs. Wormwood, and Sebastien Torkia taking the role of Mr. Wormwood.
The scenic design for Matilda is by Rob Howell, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone, choreography by Peter Darling, and sound design is by Simon Baker.
