Luke Friend Set To Star At Southwark Playhouse In 'Lift'

The London Underground may seem like an unlikely form of inspiration for musical theatre, however appearances can be deceiving as Lift is set to open at Southwark Playhouse with previews beginning on May 13th, with an official opening night scheduled for May 18th and performances due to run until June 18th.

The plot of Lift focuses around an elevator on the London underground and explores possibilities of what could happen within the lift’s four walls in 54 seconds. Everything that does takes place however, is all inside one man’s imagination.

Luke Friend who has previously appeared on TV in the X Factor, and has stage credits including 'Footloose' and 'American Idiot' will play Busker in Lift and commented on the appointment, saying “I’m absolutely delighted to be a part of the wonderful cast of LIFT! This show is going to be so intimate and unique. Being a songwriter and Busker myself for many years, I feel as though I completely and utterly relate to my character’s story and the message he is trying to bring across.”

Friend is joined by Tamara Morgan as the Lap Dancer, Hiba Elchikhe as Secretary, Marco Titus as BYT, Jordan Broatch as Avatar, Kayleigh McKnight as the French teacher, Cameron Collins as the Ballet Dancer, and Chrissie Bhima.

The original story for Lift is by Ian Watson with original lyrics and music supplied by Craig Adams. The rest of the creative team includes direction by Dean Johnson, design by Andrew Exeter, and choreography by Annie Southall.

Performances of Lift  will be at Southwark Playhouse from May 13th 2022.
