Following much speculation that a new West End revival of Jerusalem was being planned, details have now finally been confirmed as Jez Butterworth’s Jerusalem is now confirmed to return to London at the Apollo Theatre from April 16th - August 6th 2022.

Mackenzie Crook and Mark Rylance are to both reprise their roles as Ginger and Johnny “Rooster” Byron respectively. Crook and Rylance both starred in the play at the Apollo Theatre in its previous outing a decade ago, which received a nomination at the Olivier Awards for 'Best New Play'.

Jerusalem is set in Wiltshire on St. George’s Day and follows Johnny “Rooster” Byron, who is very much a wanted man and is being chased by everyone. 'Wanted' that is, for both revenge and also his ample supply of alcohol and drugs, Johnny is struggling to cope.

After making its world premiere at the Royal Court in 2009, Jerusalem later enjoyed two sold-out seasons in the West End from 2009 - 2011 before making a transfer to Broadway, where it was nominated for a Tony Award for best play.

Mark Rylance has recently appeared in several West End plays including 'Nice Fish' and 'Farinelli and the King' and will be joined by Mackenzie Crook, who also has West End credentials along with his movie and TV work that includes 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest' and  'The Seagull'. Full casting will be announced for Jerusalem in due course.

Award-winning playwright Jez Butterworth's, recent works include 'The River' and 'The Ferryman'. The new production of Jerusalem will feature the original creative team who will return for the revival next year. They include notably, direction by Ian Rickson, composition by Stephen Warbeck, lighting design by Mimi Jordan Sherin, design by Ultz, and sound design by Ian Dickinson.

Performances of Jerusalem will begin at the Apollo Theatre on April 16th, 2022.
