The Rooster Returns For A Strictly Limited Season At The Apollo Theatre

From: £ 42.00 Book Now

The Rooster returns to the West End as Mark Rylance and Mackenzie Crook reprise their roles in Ian Rickson’s acclaimed production of Jez Butterworth’s powerful play Jerusalem which now returns to the West End at the Apollo Theatre for a limited season.

It's not easy being a 'wanted' man as Johnny “Rooster” Byron is finding out. The officials from the local council want to serve him up an eviction notice, all his friends want access to his ample supply of drugs and alcohol, his son wants the pair of them to go to the county fair, and Troy Whitworth very badly wants to settle an old score. It’s an awful lot for one man, living in a caravan out in the woods, to handle. Exactly how does he do it?

Jerusalem premiered in London in 2009 at the Royal Court Theatre, in the downstairs Jerwood Theatre and was an instant sell-out hit, receiving critical acclaim before quickly transferring into the West End in 2010, and then onto Broadway the following year before returning to the capital in 2011. Crook and Rylance took on the roles of Ginger and Johnny “Rooster” Byron respectively in all four productions and now return to reprise those two legendary roles.

Jerusalem received multiple awards on both sides of the pond upon its initial staging with Rylance winning both the Laurence Olivier Award and the Tony Award for 'Best Actor in a Play'.

Jerusalem now makes a much-anticipated return to the West End 12 years after its premiere as the continued reigning champion of British stage drama.
