It has been announced that the new musical Hex is to return to the National Theatre later in 2022, with an official opening night now scheduled for November. Hex will continue to showcase at the Olivier Theatre with performances continuing until January 22nd before then reopening this winter. An official set of dates for the reopening of the show are yet to be announced.
A letter from NT artistic director and director of Hex Rufus Norris stated: “Like many productions (including several other NT ones), this one has been blighted by Covid, with the first week of previews seeing a different combination of understudies and stand-ins at almost every performance, and three weeks of performances lost since then due to illness.
We had hoped to emerge into a clearer situation in January, but while we have started performances again, fresh cases are still emerging and the creative team have had to disperse to other projects. We have also had to cancel the planned NT Live.
In light of this, and as the show is scheduled to run only until 22 January, we have decided to remount Hex in November, to give it the chance to have a full run, and so we have taken the decision to move the press night to later in the year.”
Hex is a brand new musical with a storyline based on the classic Sleeping Beauty fairytale with Rosalie Craig playing the role of the fairy who sees what was supposed to be her blessing ultimately become a curse. Three of the original songs from Hex were released in late 2021 and are available to listen to via streaming services..
The cast of Hex will be completed by Kat Ronney as Rose, Tamsin Carroll as Queenie, Michael Elcock as Bert, Sargon Yelda, Christopher Akrill, Joe Foster, Delroy Atkinson, Daisy Maywood, Natasha J Barnes, Madeline Charlemagne, Hanna Dimtsu, Ebony Clarke, Tamsin Dowsett, Ben Goffe, Esme Bacalla-Hayes, Kody Mortimer, Sonya Cullingford, Joseph Prouse, Sasha Shadid, and Shaq Taylor.
Hex is directed by Rufus Norris and features a book by Tanya Ronder and music by Jim Fortune. The designs for the show are by Katrina Lindsay, lighting design by Paul Anderson, choreography by Jade Hackett, and sound design by Simon Baker.
Performances of Hex are currently playing at the National Theatre until January 22nd and will return in November 2022.
