The madcap TV comic Harry Hill along with his fellow collaborator, Steve Brown, are to present the world premiere of their debut musical in London this summer at the Park Theatre. Tony! [The Tony Blair Rock Opera] is an original musical inspired by former Prime Minister Tony Blair and will begin previews on June 2nd ahead of a scheduled opening night on June 8th and performances due to run until July 9th.
The plot of Tony! [The Tony Blair Rock Opera] follows the former PM's life and the change in general public opinion surrounding him since he left office. Other prominent characters featured in the show include Princess Diana, George W. Bush, and Gordon Brown.
Commenting on the new production, Harry Hill said: “Ask yourself this, if you bumped into Tony Blair in the street would you ask for a selfie?... It’s struck me for a while that Tony Blair’s life is epic, operatic even, in its story arc. I know it doesn’t sound like obvious material for a comedy musical but we’re not laughing at Tony so much as laughing at the choices we made back in the 90’s and early 2000’s".
Award winning comedian Harry Hill is best known for long running TV series Harry Hill's TV Burp which was a regular feature on our screens for 10 years.
The show will feature Charlie Baker in the role of Tony Blair. He will be joined by Gary Trainor as Gordon Brown, Martin Johston as Neil Kinnock, Holly Sumpton as Cherie Blair, Rosie Strobel as John Prescott, Howard Samuels as Peter Mandelson, Madison Swan as Princess Diana, Marisa Harris and Charles Angiama.
The show will be directed by Peter Rowe, and features choreography by Francesca Jaynes, lighting design by Mark Dymock, set and costume design by Libby Watson, and sound design by Andre T.
Performances of Tony! [The Tony Blair Rock Opera] will be at the Park Theatre from June 2nd.
