Grease is once again the word in the West End! A brand new production of the classic musical is to open in the West End at the Dominion Theatre in the summer of 2022, with previews from May 3rd, prior to an opening night on May 10th, and performances playing until October 29th.
The much-loved musical features a whole array of hit songs from the famous 1978 movie that starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John and follows the fortunes of 'Danny' and 'Sandy', a couple of high school sweethearts who are reunited in senior year at Rydell High following a whirlwind summer romance. Following its premiere on Broadway in 1971, Grease transferred to the West End in 1973 and starred Richard Gere in the role of Danny Zuko. As the musical gained more popularity, the 1978 film adaptation was released achieving worldwide fame and popularity.
Grease was last showcased in the West End 14 years ago at the Piccadilly Theatre.
Commenting on the new revival of Grease, producer Colin Ingram said: “We are excited to be bringing this grittier version to the Dominion Theatre. All the familiar songs from the film are included, plus some of the songs and script from the very first production which will be new to audiences."
Grease will be directed by Nikolai Foster, with choreography by Arlene Phillips, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, scenic design by Colin Richmond, and sound design by Richard Brooker and Tom Marshall.
Performances of Grease will be at the Dominion Theatre from May 3rd, 2022. Tickets are on sale and available to book online now
