Following its postponement last year due to the pandemic, it has now been confirmed that this Christmas, the Lyric Hammersmith’s new Aladdin Pantomime will be staged from November 19th - January 2nd, and the full casting for the show has now been confirmed.
The starring role of Aladdin will be played by Qasim Mahmood, who has previously starred in 'Tartuffe' with the RSC. Making her stage debut in the role of 'Wishy' will be Gracie McGonigal, continuing the tradition at the Lyric Hammersmith of casting newcomers. Previous newcomers to appear at the venue include several members of the cast of the hit West End musical, Hamilton, Allyson Ava-Brown, Jamael Westman, and Karl Queensborough.
Dave Twankey will be played by Stephan Boyce, and Kate Donnachie will star as the Emperor/Genie, Irvine Iqbal will play Abanazer, Ellena Vincent as Jasmine, and the rest of the ensemble is made up of Wilf Walsworth, Caroline Adebayo, Carla-Jean Lares, and Kane Feagan.
Aladdin is the debut panto from Vikki Stone and is to feature all of the expected Aladdin moments, while also celebrating London culture. Comedy writer Stone has also previously had starring roles in Lyric Hammersmith pantomimes. Abigail Graham is to direct the production, with costume design by Kinnetia Isadore, scenic design by Lily Arnold, choreography by Chi-San Howard, lighting design by Sally Ferguson.
Performances of Aladdin is at Lyric Hammersmith will take place from November 19th - January 2nd, 2022.
