Prior to the much-anticipated revival of Spring Awakening, opening in London later this year at the Almeida Theatre, the full cast has now been named. Spring Awakening will play at the venue from November 30th - January 22nd.
Rupert Goold is to direct Spring Awakening, which is a classic coming-of-age musical that follows a group of teenagers as they discover their sexualities and features lyrics and a book by Steven Sater and music by Duncan Sheik, with songs including “The Song of Purple Summer” and “Mama Who Bore Me."
As announced previously, Laurie Kynaston will the role of Melchior with Amara Okereke playing the part of Wendla. The rest of the cast is made up of Stuart Thompson, Joe PittsNathan Armarkwei-Laryea, Mark Lockyer, Catherine Cusack, Carly-Sophia Davies, Kit Esuruoso, Bella Maclean, Emily Ooi, Asha Banks, Maia Tamrakar, Zheng Xi Yong, and Taylor Bradshaw.
The creative team behind Spring Awakening includes sound design by Tony Gayle, choreography by Lynne Page, costume design by Nicky Gillibrand, scenic design by Miriam Buether, and lighting design by Jack Knowles.
Following its Broadway premiere in 2006, Spring Awakening crossed the pond in 2009 to open at the Lyric Hammersmith, before transferring almost immediately to the Novello Theatre and winning an Olivier Award for 'Best New Musical'.
Performances of Spring Awakening will be at the Almeida Theatre from November 30th- January 22nd.
