Jean Paul Gaultier’s aptly titled production Fashion Freak Show is set to play a summer residency in London at the Roundhouse with previews beginning on July 15th, and a press night scheduled for July 19th and performances running until August 28th.
Jean Paul Gaultier is a hugely successful French haute-couture fashion designer, who has influenced and styled international artists including Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kylie Minogue, to name but a few. Fashion Freak Show will explore the colourful life of Gaultier and his career which has endured despite all of the turbulent politics and cultural changes that have occurred throughout. Projected vignettes will show Gaultier's supporters during Fashion Freak Show, as well as Rossy de Palma who plays a schoolteacher and there is narration from Catherine Deneuve.
Gaultier spoke of the forthcoming production: “I’m so thrilled that my Fashion Freak Show will be returning to London to take up residence at the Roundhouse. I have been greatly influenced by British music, theatre and cinema throughout my career from ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ through Punk and New Wave - and I keep coming back. I hope that audiences will enjoy the show as much as I did creating it.”
Fashion Freak Show first premiered in 2019 in Paris at Folies Bergère. The London show will feature a brand new stage, including a catwalk.
Gaultier serves as the author, director and costume designer for Fashion Freak Show whose creative team also includes co-direction by Tonie Marshall, and choreography from Marion Motin.
Performances of Fashion Freak Show will be at the Roundhouse from July 15th 2022.
