Following several years of development, a brand new musical charting on the life of televangelist Tammy Faye Messner is finally going to open later this year in London at the Almeida Theatre. The Daily Mail entertainment reporter, Baz Bamigboye, has tweeted that the musical is to start performances of the musical in the autumn.
The Minnesota-born Tammy Faye Messner was born in 1942, and grew up to become a high profile and prolific televangelist. Messner rose to fame initially through the Christian talk show which she hosted with her husband Jim Bakker, 'PTL Club', and later created 'Heritage USA', a Christian theme park, and spent time supporting patients with HIV/AIDS during the epidemic. Messner passed away aged 65 in 2007.
The currently un-named new musical is to feature an original story by James Graham and original music is by singer and song writing superstar Elton John, with original lyrics the 'Scissor Sisters' member, Jake Shears.
Casting and performance dates for the new Tammy Faye musical at the Almeida Theatre is to be revealed in due course along with ticket information.
