Who Wrote The Musical Come From Away?
The music, book and lyrics for the show was written by David Hein and Irene Sankoff, a Canadian married couple who have received multiple award nominations for what has now become an international smash hit. The actual idea to produce a stage show though came from Michael Rubinoff, a lawyer from Toronto by trade but also an Associate Dean of Visual and Performing Arts at Sheridan Collage in Oakville and a theatre producer. It was his original idea that pricked the interest of Sankoff and Hein and inspired them to visit the town of Gander on the 10th anniversary of the horrific 9/11 terrorist atrocity to interview some of the local residents of the town. What resulted from that initial visit has now become one of the worlds most successful musical productions.
