Featuring music from ABBA legends Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson and lyrics by Sir Tim Rice, the iconic musical Chess is to return to the West End for one night only on August 1st in a concert version at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The event will be the first time that the show has been performed in London since 2018 when it had a limited run at the London Coliseum.
Two chess masters meet in Bangkok to contest the world championship during the very height of the Cold War, but their greatest battle is for the love of a woman. Chess is a story of both love and tense political intrigue that plays out against the backdrop of the Cold War during the 1970s/1980s and features an incredible musical score including classic songs such as “One Night in Bangkok” and “I Know Him So Well”.
Chess will star Samantha Barks ( Les Miserables, Frozen) and Hadley Fraser (Phantom Of The Opera, City Of Angels), along with the 50-piece London Musical Theatre Orchestra. This one-off concert held at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane is an event not to be missed.
