Following a series of workshop performances and shows as part of MTFest UK, But I’m A Cheerleader is to receive its London premiere and showcase at the Turbine Theatre. But I’m A Cheerleader is a musical based on the 1999 movie of the same name, starring Natasha Lyonne.
The plot of But I’m A Cheerleader focuses on Megan, an all-American high school cheerleader who looks like she has a perfect life, and things are going swimmingly until her family and friends become convinced that she is a lesbian. In an attempt to “cure” her, Megan is sent to the ‘True Directions’ rehabilitation camp to persuade her to become heterosexual. While at the camp, some life-changing revelations are discovered, and after Megan meets up with tomboy Graham, she begins to learn more about herself than she had thought possible.
But I’m A Cheerleader first premiered in London in 2019 at MTFestUK at The Other Palace. The musical now moves to the Turbine Theatre for its first full-length engagement.
