Baz Bamigboye, The Daily Mail entertainment reporter has tweeted that a number of the original cast, and casts from later productions are to star in the show. Full casting for the charity performance of Taboo at the London Palladium is still to be confirmed.
Taboo was inspired by the 1980's London nightclub of the same name that played host to many artists such as Boy George who would visit regularly in its early years. The Taboo musical delves in and explores how the nightclub went on to symbolise a whole generation.
Taboo first opened at the 'Venue Theatre' (now the Leicester Square Theatre) on January 29th. 2002, and earned 4 Olivier Award nominations including one for 'Best New Musical'. The original cast members in the production of Taboo included Matt Lucas, Luke Evans, John Partridge, and Dianne Pilkington. The following year the musical transferred to Broadway but closed after a short run of 100 performances.
Taboo features music and lyrics by Boy George and Kevan Frost and a book by Mark Davies Markham. The original show was directed by Christopher Renshaw who will also direct the Taboo concert.
Proceeds from the one-off Taboo concert at the London Palladium on 30th January 2022 will raise money for both Shelter and the Terrence Higgins Trust.
