The Harold Pinter Theatre hosts this latest revival of Noel Coward's classic play Blithe Spirit which will now showcase from September 2021 starring Jennifer Saunders, whose hilarious performance as the eccentric clairvoyant, Madame Arcati delighted both audiences and critics alike when the production first opened in Theatre Royal Bath’s 2019 Summer Season. Featuring a highly distinguished creative team this is definitely a Blithe Spirit full of sparkling and spirit-lifting hijinks.
Novelist Charles Condomine and Ruth, his second wife are literally haunted by a past relationship when an eccentric medium somehow manages to conjure up the spirit of Charles's neurotic first wife, Elvira, at a seance.
Both have assumed that Madame Arcati is nothing but a preposterous fraud who will simply entertain their dinner guests with a little chicanery and supply Charles with some material for his next novel. When Elvira appears however, visible only to Charles, and is determined to sabotage his current marriage, life - and the afterlife - begins to get very complicated indeed.
