Despite the current Covid-19 restrictions that has seen the West End closed for business since March 2020, Juke Box musical and firm West End favourite & Juliet has now announced both its return to the stage at the Shaftesbury Theatre on May 28th 2021 and an extension to its run at the venue until February 2022.
Taking its inspiration from Romeo & Juliet, William Shakespeare’s classic tale of young love verses tribal loyalty, & Juliet explores the 'what if' scenario and rewrites the female protagonist’s story with a very modern twist as instead of dying, Juliet travels to Paris to live her life to the full set to a banging soundtrack packed full of Max Martin songs including “Roar” by Katy Perry, “Break Free” by Ariana Grande and "Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears.
The West End cast is led by Miriam-Teak Lee taking on the role of 'Juliet', accompanied by David Bedella as 'Lance' and Cassidy Janson as 'Anne Hathaway' with all three winning Olivier Awards for their performances in October 2020. The role of 'William Shakespeare' is taken by Oliver Tompsett with Melanie La Barrie playing 'the Nurse' and Jordan Luke Gage as 'Romeo'
Although the show initially suffered from lacklustre pre-sales prior to its premiere in London it has since become a firm West End favourite scooping no less than 13 WhatsOnStage Awards including 'Best New Musical', 'Best Actor' and 'Best Actress'
Performances of & Juliet will resume at the Shaftesbury Theatre from 28th May 2021 and are now on sale
