The Queen Of Spades

The Queen Of Spades Tickets London

As part of the Winter season at the Royal Opera House, Tchaikovsky's classic piece of work, The Queen Of Spades will feature from January 16th - February 1st 2019.

Basing his work on a short story from Alexander Pushkin, Tchaikovsky actually began work on The Queen of Spades in 1889. Along with his brother and co-librettist, Modest they dramatically changed Pushkin's plot, turning the character of Liza into a tragic figure and Gherman from a cynical opportunist into an ardent lover.
This is one of Tchaikovsky's most impressive and varied musical scores containing a number of  grand choruses, duets and intimate arias and duets, a masquerade who pays tribute to Mozart and even a terrifying supernatural episode. In this spectacular production from Stefan Herheim, Tchaikovsky himself features at the very heart of the action asking searching questions about the parallels between art and life and the very nature of creativity.
