Les Vepres Siciliennes

Les Vepres Siciliennes Tickets London

Stefan Herheim’s production of Verdi’s grand French opera Les Vêpres Siciliennes (The Sicilian Vespers) was created in 2013 and was the first to mark the elite composer’s bicentenary at the Royal Opera House and will once again grace the famous stage in Covent Garden this October and November.

Verdi’s epic five act work was first written for the Paris Opéra, and in it he embraces both the elaborate style and unique traditions of the grand opera genre, while at the same time remaining true to his own inimitable style giving an end result that is thrillingly ambitious and impressive in equal measures with choruses, duets and spectacular showpiece arias for the four principal characters.

Hélène lusts longingly for vengeance on Montfort, who killed her brother and enlists the help of both her lover Henri, and the rebel Procida – although Henri will soon discover that Montfort is actually his father!

Upon this devastating discovery, Henri betrays his friends to save his father and in return for Henri’s acceptance, Montfort pardons both Hélène and Procida. But Procida remains unswayed and determined to destroy Montfort leading to a fatal showdown at a wedding where a desperate act destroys them all.
