Les Patineurs

Les Patineurs Tickets London

Frederick Ashton's simplistic and nostalgic evocation of the joy of ice skating on a frozen lake, Les Patineurs was created for The Royal Ballet back in 1937 and is now recreated as part of the Winter season at the Royal Opera House. The atmospheric designs from William Chappell add to the dazzling choreography that conjures up the romance in this wintry setting.

Different groups of all types of skaters - graceful experts, romantic couples, comically clumsy beginners, and over confident show-offs - all take to the ice on a frozen lake one crisp winter's day.

With a score arranged by Constant Lambert from the ice-skating ballet in Giacomo Meyerbeer's opera Le Prophète, Ashton re-imagines the scene with his comedic turns, virtuoso steps, and the lyrical beauty of the pas de deux. The Company is allowed to shine through with a variety of solo, pas de deux and pas de trois roles and eventually ends in a spirited finale, as the Blue Boy executes a series of astonishing pirouettes, as the curtain comes down.
