Giselle - Royal Ballet

Giselle - Royal Ballet Tickets London

It is the ballet that completely transformed the world of dance in 1841 when it was first performed in Paris, and remains at the very centre of the classical repertory to this day. The Royal Ballet proudly presents Giselle - the classic ballet of the romantic era which will showcase at the Royal Opera House from January 18th until March 2nd 2018.

The essence of this glorious ballet has remained the same through all of its many different productions in well over a century of continuous performance. This latest production from Peter Wright for The Royal Ballet is based on Marius Petipa’s classic version which was first staged in 1884 in St Petersburg.

After discovering the true identity of her lover Albrecht and that he is promised to another, the peasant girl Giselle tragically takes her own life.  After leaving her body, her soul enters the ranks of the Wilis – shades of the many young women who have died before their wedding day. All men who cross their path become compelled to dance themselves to death. Albrecht falls into their trap but is saved by Giselle’s intercession which also releases her soul from the Wilis’ power.
