The Commitments To Open At The Palace

After months of speculation Theatre Tickets London have learned that the eagerly anticipated new musical The Commitments is to open at the Palace Theatre this October.


The stage version of The Commitments, based on the hit 1991 Alan Parker movie will take over from the current occupant of the venue Singin' In The Rain when it finishes its run this summer.


The plot of the show focuses around Jimmy Rabbitte, who  aspires to manage the world's greatest band, with only one music in mind: soul. Disgusted with bands in Ireland, he sets out and assembles a soul band in the tradition of classic singers such as Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, and Wilson Pickett.


Jimmy holds assembles a group of young musicians after holding auditions at his parents house. Unlike his idols, Jimmy's band are all white. With the help of Joey "The Lips" Fagan, the veteran musician in the band who has unlikely stories about meeting and working with famous singers and musicians, Jimmy begins to whip the rest of the members into shape - only to have the band eventually fall apart in a huge clash of egos.
