Mark Wynter Joins Dreamboats

Venus In Blue Jeans singer Mark Wynter is to roll back the years to the era when he topped the pop charts regularly this week as he joins the cast of Dreamboats And Petticoats at the Wyndham's Theatre.

Wynter had nine hit singles in the early 1960s before bidding pop goodbye to forge a career as an actor, but will now combine both aspects of his working life by joining the cast of the 60s-set jukebox musical to play the father of a wannabe pop star.

The singer-turned-actor has performed in hit musicals before having appeared in The Phantom Of The Opera, South Pacific and Cats  among others - but never before singing his own songs and although for most of Dreamboats And Petticoats he will be playing a scripted role, the finale will see him reliving his past by performing renditions of Go Away Little Girl and It's Almost Tomorrow.

Dreamboats And Petticoats first joined the list of hit West End musicals back in 2009, when it opened at the Savoy theatre before transferring to the Playhouse theatre the year after. The show, which follows  two boys hoping to win both a national song writing contest as well as the heart of the gorgeous Sue, features classic 60s hits, including Bobby's Girl, Let's Dance, Runaround Sue and Let's Twist Again.

After closing its doors at the Playhouse Theatre earlier this year, it has now reopened at the Wyndham's Theatre for a winter return to the West End.
