Carmen

Carmen Tickets London

The Royal Opera House season continues with Carmen by French composer Georges Bizet.  Possibly one of the most famous operas ever written and featuring classic numbers including the Habanera and the Toreador Song which have permeated the popular consciousness towards opera more than most.

The combination of sensuality, passion, and violence proved too much initially for the stage, and it was billed as a faliure by critics on its premiere in 1875. Unfortunately, a short time late Bizet died and so never learned of, nor enjoyed the spectacular success his opera achieved: Carmen has now been performed more than 500 times in London at Covent Garden alone!

Don José is a young soldier who intends to marry the beautiful Micaëla from his home village. But after meeting fiercely independent and incredibly sensual Carmen, he is blinded by love and sacrifices everything to be with her.

Eventually Carmen tires of Don José and she falls in love with Escamillo. Unable to cope with Carmen leaving him, Don José tracks her down and kills her.
